Perspectives on Health and Tech Ep. 120: Teri Meintel on How Patient Access Impacts an Organization’s Bottom Line

As health care marches toward a value-based model, Patient Access is a critical piece of the shift toward smarter care that focuses on the needs of consumers and empowers them to take charge of their own health and care.

Patient satisfaction, in many cases, is attributed to patient access professionals. They are often seen as the face of their organizations and help to create positive experiences for patients and providers alike. In no uncertain terms, Patient Access professionals are shaping the future of health care.

Established in 1982, Patient Access Week is a celebration of the health care professionals who are dedicated to educating and supporting individuals in obtaining care services. The date marks the anniversary of the founding of the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM), the only national professional organization dedicated to promoting excellence within the field. Each year, the celebration spans the entire week surrounding the anniversary, April 5.

On this episode of Perspectives on Health and Tech, we are joined by Teri Meintel, principal financial alignment executive at Cerner, to discuss the importance of Patient Access and the impact it can have on an entire organization. Teri answers the following questions:

  • What exactly does Patient Access refer to and why does Patient Access matter?
  • What impact does Patient Access have on a health care organization’s bottom line?
  • What are some of the biggest challenges in Patient Access? How can organizations combat these challenges?
  • How can technology be leveraged to help an organization achieve their Patient Access goals?
  • Why is it important for health care organizations to be able to determine an appropriate financial pathway for every patient in near real-time?
