Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) delivered its highly anticipated final rule on provisions of the Cures Act that support interoperability of electronic health information for patients, providers and others. In addition to a focus on HIT certification and interoperability in health care, the rule promotes the end of information blocking — a practice in which the access, exchange or use of electronic health information is restricted inappropriately.

In the Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) proposed rule for 2019 federal fiscal year, CMS changed the name of the EHR Incentive Program/MU to the Promoting Interoperability (PI) program, applicable to both Medicare and Medicaid. That name change is tied to a shift in the program away from incentives for EHR use and a refocusing of the program on interoperability.

Cerner Ignite APIs for Millennium is the name for Cerner’s open APIs that allow outside apps to be integrated with the Cerner Millennium platform to fulfill niche workflows, optimize functionality and enable more informed decisions at the point of care.
Cerner Ignite APIs for Millennium includes Cerner’s implementation of SMART Health IT and the HL7® Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®) standard. Simply put, FHIR provides access to data within the EHR. SMART handles negation between an EHR and an app to allow a user experience on top of a secure connection to the FHIR resources for data access.

Cerner Ignite APIs for HealtheIntent enable API access to the various features of Cerner's population health platform, including aggregated longitudinal person records, registries and measures, risk scores, and other population-health-related information. Additionally, the HealtheIntent Data Syndication API allows bulk transport of large sets of longitudinal record information, which you can import and investigate in third-party data warehouses or research systems.
