The team of nurses can help address patient inquiries and questions on COVID-19, perform symptom checking and direct patients to the most appropriate level of care, whether its self-care at home, following the appropriate self-quarantine guidelines, or an appointment with a provider, visiting urgent care or calling 911.

The Health Dialog nurse line services are available to Cerner clients through a short-term contract (minimum of three months). No technology or eligibility files are required. Client responsibilities are limited to designating a key project manager for deployment and program communication and announcements.

Health Dialog will create a toll-free number specific to your organization and registered nurses will answer calls using your brand. Call staff will have access to live interpretation services that translate over 200 languages. With the coronavirus pandemic pushing clinicians to the limit to provide care to patients, lessening burnout is more crucial than ever. The Wellsheet predictive clinical workflow platform can help support clinicians by providing near real-time diagnostic result alerts, visibility of all patients being tested or confirmed with COVID-19 by location, attending physician, and associated isolation status.

The AI-powered platform uses the FHIR API standards to work within the EHR to surface the most relevant content for physicians in a view that is contextualized and prioritized for their needs. By doing so, the platform helps to facilitate a more effortless episode of care and reduce clinician time spent in the EHR.

Accessible on any web browser, tablet, or mobile device, Wellsheet can increase the clinician's ability to provide quicker response times and clinical decisions based on the most recent data available, while reducing exposure in shared workspaces.

Devices

ResMed

As a medical technology manufacturer of respiratory devices, including ventilators, ResMed has mobilized a global task force in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Access to critical care ventilators will be important during this pandemic and ResMed has taken the necessary steps to prioritize manufacturing resources for ventilators that support higher acuity patients. However, as ventilator resources become stretched due to high demand, alternative ventilation options such as non-invasive ventilation (NIV) bi-level and CPAP therapy will be crucial to stabilizing or sustaining patients who require respiratory support. ResMed is increasing production of their NIV-Non Invasive Ventilation and Bilevel devices as part of their COVID-19 response. As ventilator resources become stretched due to high demand, alternative ventilation options such as bilevel devices will be crucial to stabilizing or sustaining patients who require respiratory support. As described in the attached document from ResMed, there is evidence from the field, that bi-level devices or non-invasive ventilators may be useful in the following scenarios:

  1. When a patient needs support for respiratory insufficiency, but has not deteriorated into more severe hypoxemia, ARDS, or any other clinical scenario where invasive ventilation is more appropriate.
  2. To decompress ICU census, after a patient is extubated and recovering from invasive ventilation, and help mitigate the risk of reintubation, to allow an invasive ventilator to be cleaned and serviced and circulated back into use on another patient.
  3. To decompress hospital census, allowing patients who still need some respiratory support to transition to the home or other non-hospital facilities (e.g. rehabilitation center, skilled nursing facility, etc.) on devices that are already used in millions of homes every day.
  4. The patient needs intubation but there are no more invasive ventilators, non-invasive ventilation could be useful to bridge the time to intubation. This situation is the highest risk and not ideal therefore the patient must be closely monitored. Some evidence suggests this may only be helpful for a short time (e.g. less than 2 hours).

Pre-Shift Health Screening

Many regulatory authorities have mandated that health screenings be performed before employees report to work. The Pre-Shift Health Screening tool can help limit employee exposure to COVID-19 by triggering a discreet online health survey to employees before their shift. The survey is meant to evaluate potential COVID-19 exposure risk factors and determine if the employee is cleared to work or needs to take additional precautions. If the employee has been approved to come to work, a QR code will be provided to gain access to the employee's work location.

Contact Tracing and Notifications

It is critical that our clients notify their employees when the employee may have been unintentionally exposed to COVID-19 while at work. Our Contact Tracing and Notifications tools help by identifying individuals who may have been in contact with someone who has reported exposure or has been diagnosed with COVID-19. Notifying employees who have potentially been exposed to an affected colleague with a survey link to determine the risk of exposure (e.g. same department, building, breakroom, etc.), and then suggesting next steps based on official guidelines by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), government authorities or other reputable resources.

Managing an increase in Absenteeism

Employee absenteeism and leave events have increased, forcing employers to fill gaps in essential roles and stay on top of rapidly changing leave laws. Our Absence and Leave Management solution eases the impact of these changing laws and helps educate our clients on compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws.
