Over the past year, Cerner has taken several important steps to expand on our diversity and inclusion efforts – building on the work of the past 40 years from our leadership and all associates to help ensure everyone feels welcomed, valued and respected in the workplace.

In the spirit of transparency and accountability, I'm pleased to introduce Cerner's first Diversity and Inclusion Report. This initial report looks back at the organization's efforts and activities during 2019 and highlights the dedication our leadership team has to making diversity and inclusion a priority for the organization. We've made significant progress since the formation of Cerner's Diversity & Inclusion office in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Did you know that...

  • In 2019, Forbes magazine named Cerner one of the country's best employer's for Diversity, LGBTQ Equality, and New Graduates.
  • In October 2019, Cerner Chairman and CEO Brent Shafer signed the CEO Action Pledge for Diversity and Inclusion to underscore our focus on creating a work environment where associates of all cultures, backgrounds and viewpoints are able to bring their best selves to work and unleash their full potential.
  • At the end of 2019, more than 4,000 Cerner associates have joined our eight different Associate Business Resource Groups that provide a space for associates to come together and address key success factors through a specific cultural lens.

We know this critical work takes time, and while we appreciate our efforts to date, we also recognize there is more work to be done moving forward. As Cerner continues to attract and retain a diverse team of talented associates to serve the needs of our clients, we're committed to ensuring our company is a place where everyone feels confident in bringing their unique experiences and viewpoints to the workplace. This helps us provide better solutions for our clients – and builds a robust internal support system for our associates.

We're committed to holding ourselves accountable by providing our associates and clients consistent updates on our efforts – not only through this new annual report but throughout the year. I look forward to sharing our continued progress with you in 2021!
