Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) recently announced the go-live of the managed technology platform for their clinical information system. Together, they support the Government of Qatar’s vision to deliver superior healthcare to its citizens and residents. The platform and clinical information system are supplied by Cerner, a leading global healthcare technology company headquartered in the United States.

This managed technology service, the first of its kind in the region, will establish a modern, scalable platform on which the HMC and PHCC system can operate with high levels of availability and performance. Delivered on time ahead of the highly anticipated FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, the platform supports Qatar’s healthcare needs from today through the World Cup. With a new capacity of more than 20,000 users, the platform can easily be scaled to meet future expansion needs of HMC and PHCC. It also lays the foundation for future digital healthcare advancements and improving experiences for the country’s patients and caregivers.

Asked about the go-live, Richard Storey, Chief Information Officer of HMC, explained, “Recent times have driven home the message that the digital electronic health record is a critical clinical tool. This significant adjustment gives assurance that this is recognized and supported while growing and extending our clinical reach deeper into our clinical, academic and community spaces through the exploration of new digital opportunities that this upgrade offers.”

Since 2012, HMC and PHCC have successfully deployed a state-of-the-art clinical information system supplied by Cerner. The system leverages the spectrum of Cerner’s solutions and managed services in support of the integrated delivery of care across Qatar’s public healthcare sector.

Alexandra Tarazi, Executive Director of Health Information and Communication Technology in PHCC, added, “The adoption of Clinical Information Systems in primary care exceeded our expectations. This upgrade will enable us to further expand and enhance electronic health services to the community and in public schools. We also hope to improve patient engagement through mobile services and patient portal”.

With the shifting needs and advancements of technology, the go-live of this managed technology platform will enable HMC and PHCC to remain current and at the forefront of innovation as they continue to roll out new services and solutions to Qatar’s citizens and residents. Besides increased capacity and improvements to performance, the new platform will facilitate simpler system upgrades and reduce the need for technical interruptions to clinical services.

Adrian Dey, general manager of Cerner in Qatar, said, “Last year marked the tenth anniversary of Cerner’s partnership with HMC and PHCC in the State of Qatar. We are humbled and honored to continue our support of both organizations as they deliver world-class health services to Qatar’s esteemed citizens and residents. With the launch of our managed technology service, we embark on a new chapter in our relationship by offering a robust platform to continue to drive the digital transformation within Qatar healthcare and support both organizations in delivering better healthcare outcomes.”
