Special Edition of The Cerner Podcast | Ep. 97: Wednesday at #CHC18

Published on 10/10/2018

This year, we're bringing #CHC18 to you with The Cerner Podcast.

In this special edition episode of The Cerner Podcast, we bring insights from the 2018 Cerner Health Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, where more than 12,000 attendees from across the country and the globe have come together to learn and network. Sit at the table with us as we have conversations with health care leaders, Cerner clients and industry influencers. We’ll be covering health IT trends and focusing on this year’s CHC theme of “Smarter Care.”

In Wednesday's episode, we hear from Mark Winden, director and solution executive for Cerner’s cardiovascular solutions. He talks about using image surfacing technology to get information to clinicians in ways they've never seen before.

"We're pushing boundaries for better outcomes," he says. "One specific disease that is really growing is aortic stenosis, and it's a death sentence unless you have surgeries. A lot of those patients have high risk comorbidities and can't have surgeries. We want to find those patients earlier before they develop those other comorbidities."

We also welcome Meg Marshall, senior director for public policy and government affairs for Cerner. She discusses the growing role of government in health care and gives us a brief update on what's going on in the regulatory world for the rest of the year and into 2019.

Finally, we talk with Dr. Dermot O’Riordan, surgeon and chief clinical information officer from West Suffolk NHS. He gives us his take on how the role of the CMIO is evolving and what disruptive technology can do for the health care industry.

"Every health system around the world has pressures -- shortage of staff, money pressures, an aging population and greater expectations. We have to do things in a really different ways," O'Riordan says. "Now is the time when we need to accelerate new ways of working doing things in a smarter way that produces better outcomes."
