On a recent episode of the Perspectives on Health and Tech podcast, Robert shared how his organization combined real world clinical experiences, innovative architecture and existing technology to produce a near-time analytics dashboard for nurses.

1. Real-time analytics offer two primary benefits for health care organizations.
Monitoring Processes: Through using real-time analytics, organizations can see if a process is repeatable and reproducible across the continuum. They can also determine if clinicians are executing a process as intended.
Improving Quality of Care: Real-time analytics ensure that physicians are following evidence-based practices and that the data they need is available in an easily accessible way.
2. Leaders at all levels of the health care system should be empowered to engage with real-time analytics.
The challenges of deploying and adopting a new platform can be lessened by giving everyone across the organization the data they need to deliver more value, improve care and advance the overall patient experience.
“Once everyone can engage in the analytics, everyone has a piece of the puzzle, and they all have an opportunity to hold each other accountable,” says Robert.
3. There are practical strategies to jump-start your real-time health care analytics efforts.
Robert offers these tips to health care organizations that want to optimize their real-time analytics program:
Know your business: “Applying real-time analytics to a problem that isn’t a problem doesn’t get solutions.”
Do your research: “Make sure the metrics you select are actually driving your processes, and if they don’t, you need to move on to other metrics. Metrics that can’t create action in a real-time environment don’t drive anything.”
Keep it simple: “Anything that requires too much complexity to get to the data you need isn’t going to be used.”
